TRUMP GANGSTA

1988 was a long fucking time ago.

It’s football season again.

High-school football season’s just started. My son just earned a varsity spot; can’t wait to see him play! Last season our team went all the way to the state championships; we lost.

1988 was a long fucking time ago.

In fact, our team has gone to the state finals every year since 1988; every year since 1988: undefeated in the regular season, rarely do we win the big game.

1988 was a long fucking time ago.

Last time we won the big game was 2004, a close one. In 2000 we won also, but some say we cheated, that victory will always be tainted.

1988 was a long fucking time ago.

My son’s not first string; I’m hoping he gets a chance to play. Maybe in the second half when we have a good lead?

The visiting team hasn’t had a winning season, coincidently since 1988. That’s when we hired our new coach. Sure he’s predictable; been running the same playbook for decades. Great in the regular season, can’t win the big game is a common grumbling.

1988 was a long fucking time ago.

Game started a few minutes ago. I’m standing in line for popcorn, not even watching the game. Texting a friend; chatting with my wife, smiling and shaking hands with neighbors I haven’t seen since last season.

Finally, I’m at the front of the line, pay my money, make my way to the stands. My best friend has reserved a seat for me and my wife in the bleachers; I bought him a Coke and hotdog.

It’s quiet, too quiet; a-lot of people are grumbling.

Did somebody die?

I sit down; look up at the scoreboard.
6 minutes into the first quarter:
HOME – 0 AWAY -28

Our team’s getting killed.

“Jesus!”

Friend: “What?”

“We’re getting killed.”

Friend: “What do you mean?
It’s only 6 minutes into the game.
You can’t know anything at this stage in the game.

Seriously?

“Ok. I’ve missed it. What’s been going on?”

Friend: “Well. We received the kickoff. Their special teams forced a fumble, they recovered and scored.

They kicked it deep, fair catch. They sacked our quarter-back twice, knocking him out of the game. Then we punted, they marched down the field, another touchdown. After they kicked: “three and out.” We punted again.

They marched the ball down the field, their running back and offensive line are dominating…”

I stop listening; tune him out; begin focussing on the game. It’s obvious: our team’s demoralized, panicked. Our team’s second-string quarterback’s running scared, afraid to stay in the pocket. We keep trying the same plays, (which have always worked in years passed,) but they’re not working, in fact we’re unable to gain any yardage.

“This is a rout.”

“You’re being ridiculous. We never lose during regular season.”

HOME – 0 AWAY -28.

We never lose?
I’M being ridiculous?
We’ve been running the SAME playbook since 1988.
Maybe we’ve met a team the playbook won’t work against?

I want to tell my friend what I think, but it’s no use; he won’t listen. I smile, grab some more popcorn, sip my coke, why argue? How can I argue with his logic? “History has proven” is a powerful argument, yet I can’t help thinking:

1988 was a long fucking time ago.

Take a good look at the electoral college map above. Notice anything funny? California and New York BOTH for Reagan. In fact, look at all the current Democratic stronghold states. (Carter was from Georgia, Mondale, (Carter’s VP. from Minnesota.))

1984

In 1984 Reagan faced Mondale from Minnesota, the only state The Democrats won that year. HOW did this happen? Can we learn anything from this?

Nixon called them “the silent majority.” In Reagan’s time they were called: “Reagan Democrat’s.” Pat Buchanan called them: “conservatives of the heart.” The establishment Republican party abandoned them in 1988. It’s 2015, a new season has just begun, can we learn anything from history?

Take a look at this 1980 Republican Nomination chart. Many people have a view of Reagan clouded by history; clouded by years of commentary, talking heads, pundits.

Reagan, the outsider, the clown, the extremist, the actor, former Democrat, the carnival barker- ran against a crowded Republican field as well. The turning point in this election was South Carolina, notice the results before and after South Carolina.

Reagan faced a GOP-establishment-anointed Bush as well, but unlike Reagan, (because of the Internet, social media, Trump’s megaphone and alternative media- Donald Trump and his ideas are being discussed 6 month’s before the main election. As a result, this election is already over, and the first vote hasn’t even been cast!

The GOP establishment is panicked, and they should be, BIG MO is on Trump’s side.

Here are some great articles which helped inspire this one:

Adhemar: And how would you beat him?
Fence: With a stick. While he slept. But on a horse, with a lance? That man is unbeatable.

From: A Knight’s Tale.

Momentum.
All of us can move a car on a flat surface with the emergency brake off; it’s not that hard. This same car, rolling down a steep hill at 60 miles an hour: don’t try it.

Fox News tried it during the debates. They bashed Donald Trump before, during and after. They used phony focus groups. They’ve written volumes of articles, yet, Donald Trump’s momentum grows:

This Google Trends chart shows interest in Trump at an all-time high AFTER the debates. The first spike is when Donald Trump announced; the highest, most-recent spike is the debates, and aftermath.

Now, taking a page from the old playbook, they are trying the old “SHILL suicide bomber” trick.
How does it work?
Find a candidate who has nothing to lose; order him to “take one for the team.”

So Rand Paul, (polling at sub 5%, nearly out of money,) has decided to step in front of Donald Trump’s campaign bus. He’s running attack ads, and doing interviews calling Trump a closet Democrat.

Rick Perry.

Lindsey Graham.

Rand Paul?

GOP establishment hopes this will have an effect, it won’t. It will just make Trump stronger, it will just increase momentum, and help Trump in the general election. There’s not only a new playbook, it’s a different game!

Trump’s supporters are not going anywhere. All Rand will succeed in doing is knocking himself out of the race, increasing Trump’s legend. Most Democrats watching, are going to look at Trump’s past statements as proof that Trump is a man who thinks, nothing else:

O’Reilly: “It’s an easy question…”

Letterman: “It’s not easy for me because I’m thoughtful.
How ’bout that?”
